How is Autoclaving Done?

One of the most commonly used processes in medical waste management Hollywood is autoclaving or steam sterilization. This is a technique that involves sterilizing medical waste with high pressure steam for a certain period of time and it does not require the use of any reagents or other chemicals.

Thanks to autoclaving, certain medical instruments can be thoroughly cleaned and used again in surgical or dental procedures. As such, autoclaving is not only a cost-effective for medical waste management Hollywood, but it is also an eco-friendly option that reduce the need for medical waste disposal and stimulates health care organizations to reuse their material.

How is an Autoclave Used?

As a good way to clean, sanitize and disinfect medical equipment, an autoclave uses pressurized steam to destroy and sterilize any microorganisms that found themselves a place on medical instruments. Once it is switched on, the water inside the autoclave starts to boil and steam is released in the chamber. The steam that fills the room then boosts the sterilizing ability of the autoclave machine,

There are a number of proper techniques that you need to understand if you want to use the autoclave efficiently. The first thing that you need to ensure is that the control knob on the drain valve is closed properly. This can be found at the bottom front of the steam sterilization machine.

Once you do that, open the hatch on the chamber and fill it with water. Don’t fill the chamber entirely, but just below the lip on the reservoir. A gallon of water will should be enough.

Now start loading the shelfs in the autoclave with medical tools that you want to clean. For any instruments, role them in a paper and staple to protect their content.

Close the door on the autoclave chamber and press the exhaust switch. Now you can control the exhaust depending on what you need to sterilize.

If you intend to use liquid-filled bottles, you should only fill the container up to ¾ or even less and make sure that the lids are not too tight (they should be a little loose).

Every medical tool or medical waste has its proper sterilization time that you should follow when using an autoclave. For example, if the machine contains more than one liter, you should leave it to sterilize for 30 minutes. ON the other hand, for smaller amounts you can leave it for 15 minutes. Vice versa, if the autoclave machine has more than a gallon of water, it must not be interrupted before at least one hour has passed.

Do not open the autoclave door before the timer reaches zero and do so by keeping your skin, especially face away from the upper part of the door. Otherwise hot steam can burn you. Use heat-proof gloves to remove sterilized items from the autoclave and wash it with hot liquid. Water will do fine.

If there is any water left in the chamber, empty it by opening the drain control on the autoclave to its open position.

There is more and more concern about Hollywood medical waste disposal and using an autoclave machine allows us to sanitize and safely reuse some medical tools.
